If you believe you have a dental emergency it's important to see a dentist who practices emergency dental care. These are typically known as emergency dentists. Many dentist do see patients on an emergency basis, but some do not. If you believe you need to see an emergency dentist, make sure that you go see a dentist that sees patients for this. You can always call ahead too. Emergency dental care can prevent even more serious issues from arising.
You Are in Horrible Pain
This is the most common sign that you need emergency dental care. If you are in horrible pain it may be time to see an emergency dentist. Pain in the mouth is something a traditional doctor might not be able to help with. While they can do things to control the pain, a dentist can figure out what the underlying cause of the pain it. This is why seeing an emergency dentist is the best first option. This way, you can reduce the pain and fix the issue that is causing the pain at the same time.
You Chipped a Tooth
Chipping a tooth is never fun. If you chipped a tooth you may qualify for emergency dental care. A chipped tooth should be looked at quickly to make sure that the root isn't exposed as that can cause horrible pain. A chipped tooth can also be prone to rotting which can cause even more issues. There is also the cosmetic factor as a chipped tooth can tarnish your appearance. It can also cause you to scrape your gums and lips. Many people don't think a chipped tooth qualifies for emergency dental work but it can so it is something to consider.
You Have Uncontrollable Bleeding
If you recently had wisdom teeth removal, or any other type of dental work done and have bleeding that isn't stopping, you should see an emergency dentist. Many dentists will remind you of this after a procedure but it's important to not avoid this. Sometimes stitches may have fallen out or once swelling is increased blood flow increases. Be sure to remember this before your next procedure. An emergency dentist will be able to stitch you up and prevent any more bleeding. If there is something causing it they can fix it as well. An emergency dentist is the best doctor to see for this situation.
Your Implant Fell Out
If you have ever received an implant or a crown, it might be at risk of falling out. While rare, this does happen. If your implant does fall out, it is important to seek out an emergency dentist, as it may expose a nerve and cause a dry socket which can become painful. To prevent this pain from happening, seek out an emergency dental practitioner right away. If you know where your implant is, bring it with you to this appointment. This can make it easier for the dentist to mold you a new one.
You Suffered an Accident
If you fell or had an accident of some kind and injured your jaw, you may need emergency dental care. Sometimes during a hard hit to the jaw we can damage our teeth or chip a tooth in the back where it can't be seen. A cracked tooth can become problematic later on. Sometimes, you may have knocked a tooth loose. If you suffered a hit to the jaw or even a fall, seek out an emergency dentist. Sometimes a fall might be more serious on a dental X-ray than it appears in person. It's better to be safe in these situations.
